Please no shopping-cart

Please no shopping-cart.

My mantra is: Focus, Focus, Focus! You will have to run against OS-Commerce and XTC, for Joomla-Users you will run against Virtue-Mart. The great thing is to be able to integrate everything. I want you to keep on your Focus: The best Affiliate-Network ever, and not to try to built a shopping-cart, this is something where lots of code is on the market already and some of them are really good!

Adding a Shopping-Cart would not make a "Killer-Product" out of PAP, it would bring it down to one of the thousands of products with too many aspects and no clear goal. In the moment PAP IS (!) a Killer-Product, because it runs with all great other codes. Please extend your Affiliate-Functionality, focus on yourself. As long as you do that, nobody will be able to bring up a "better" Affiliate-Program. But when you built a shopping-cart, there are great ones out already and when you give up your main focus, Affiliates, then others will be able to take a piece of that cake!

Best wishes, Julian!

Shopping cart module

Julian,

The main reason I mentioned the possibility of having a shopping cart module was for the ability to set different commissions for each product, so some products could offer 50% commissions and other products 15%, and when a customer places an order which includes both, then proper commissions could be calculated for the affiliate.

The ONLY way to do this is to have the shopping cart and affiliate system integrated tightly.

The reason I want this is because I cannot offer my standard commissions AND include other publisher's products on my site without being able to set different commissions for each product. While PAP is capable of doing this, it is only possible when the different products are purchased separately, AND the cart passes the product IDs to PAP. When 2 products requiring different commissions are purchased in a single order, PAP is currently unable to handle it.

Also, I know of no cart that will pass a list of all product IDs in an order to an affiliate system. If this happened, then maybe PAP4 could be configured to handle the different commission rates by itself.

I agree with you that there are many good carts available, and that in general, it's better to focus on ones primary target and not diffuse ones efforts.

If there's a good way to arrange multiple commission rates within a single shopping cart order without adding a cart module to PAP, I'm open to ideas.

At the moment, the only way I can imagine this is to have custom modifications to each potential shopping cart for integration, but then upgrading these carts becomes more problematic.

Why not?

Why not? You can use different commissions in different campaigns and define each product to a campaign. This you can do for every product also. Sure, there should be a module for, because haveing a different campaign for each (!) product is too much.

Uh ... I see the problem. When I have one (!) shopping-cart, there is no gereral way to define the commissions. But I would take another solution, which should be much easier.

When PAP can handele different positions, then we can make for each product-sale a single transaction. Meaning: When somebody buys here on Qualityunit "SupportCenter" and "LifeAgent", then bouth of them should be different transactions. And each of the transactions should contain the article-number of the bought product.

Then PAP should have a list of article-numbers, and when a transaction has an article-number, that "hits" an article-number in PAP, the commission is defined it the PAP-List. Else, the campaign-commission is taken.

Could be a nice module.

Admin, can you please move the posts 4, 6 and 7 of this thread and move it to a new thread?

Best wishes, Ju lian!
