Killer-Applications - Download-Versions
Killer-Applications - Download-Versions
4 years ago submited by Julian Wolf
Hi all of you,
after Alan wrote in another thread, that PAP would be a Killer-App when a shopping-Cart is integrated, this is not my opinion. My believe is: PAP is an Killer-Affiliate-Software, and not a Mixed-Everything-includign-Shopping-Software. Shopping should keep in the hands of those, who already made some killer-shopping-applications.
However, after thinking a day through there could be a very easy solution: Integrate it! Not only "easy to integrate", but a download-version, that already includes a Open-Source-Shopping-Cart. And possibly some other versions/Codes.
There is a Joomla-Installatin that already includes VirtueMart. There is also a Joomla-Installation that already includes Community-Builder. Why not a PAP-Version, that allready includes XTC (Open Source)?
Then the buyer has only one download-file, uploads everything. The installation-routine should cover all, the installation of Joomla/Virtuemart/PAP or XTC/Pap.
Then you can anounce PAP also as an "all-includet-software". No need to integrate anything, just download the joomla-viertuemart-version or the xtc-version, and you also have the complete shopping-cart or the whole CMS around your Affiliate-software includet.
What do you think?
Best wishes, Julian!
In theory, Julian, your idea is a good one

In theory, Julian, your idea is a good one. The main problem here is that if QualityUnit were to include a GPL product in their distribution of PAP, then PAP would be forced to be a GPL product itself.
The GPL license is very strict in how GPL code may be distributed, in that it may not be included with a commercial product, and the GPL license extends to include anything distributed with the original code.
What QualityUnit MAY do is to create integration modules for other system to tighten the integration with PAP. It might also be possible to create an "auto-install" feature that will fetch the GPL code and install it for the user so that they may work together as a system. In some respects, this would be similar to the way Fantastico installs software in a web hosting environment.
When I used X-Cart, they used 'patch' files, which automatically edited the core files as needed to create modifications. I don't know much about this, although it seems like, in certain conditions, it may be possible to create a 'patch' file to add integration code to a 3rd party system.

Well ... in this case

Well ... in this case, an Installation-script which covers PAP and XTC or PAP and Joomla/VM would be the solution.
Instructions:
- Upload all XTC-Files
- Upload all PAP-Files
- Start the Installation-Script
When the Installation-Script is GPL, then all should work, doesn´t it?
In fact, reason for GPL not being combined is for my opinion, that nobody uses a GPL-Software, simply adds two lines of code and then sells it for big money, sing the Features of the GPL. But this is something, PAP is not affected of.
So the problem is: I see no ethics-problem, but the restrictions of GPL must be hitted somehow. ;-)
Best wishes, Julian!
